Several winters ago, I had a relative stay over at my place for a few days. It was an especially cold winter that year, and it was causing the air in the room that he was sleeping in to become uncomfortably dry, which was causing him sinus problems due to the lack of moisture. So I decided to do some research online to find out if there was anything I could possibly due to alleviate this problem, and my research eventually lead me to the conclusion that I needed a humidifier.
I began browsing various sites online in search of a good humidifier, and I happened to come across a space heater that was capable of functioning as a humidifier. It turned out it was an infrared heater called the Dr Heater DR-998 Elite, and it was exactly what I needed for my room since I needed an extra space heater anyway. So after mulling it over for a while, I decided to pull the trigger and went ahead and ordered one online. Buying this heater turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s been one of my best companions over the years, giving me much needed heat AND moisture.
What I Like About This Infrared Heater
Humidifying Capabilities – The DR-998 has a built-in ultrasonic humidifier that disperses moisture into the air in order to increase a room’s humidity. Cold air tends to reduce humidity levels to the point where it can cause issues like cracked skin and a dried out throat, and that’s why these types of symptoms are more common during the winter. The built in humidifier in this heater works very well, and I found that it really does help to relieve some of the aforementioned problems. I think this is one of the best features of this heater and I really can’t say enough about it.
Cooling Fan – Believe it or not this heater can also be used as a summer fan! All of the functions can be operated independently, so you can actually turn the heater off and just turn the fan on. It can even oscillate as well!
Virtually Silent – If you’ve ever used a space heater with a built-in fan before, then you know that they can be quite noisy. People who are sensitive to sound will find themselves unable to sleep when in the same room with one. The DR-998 has a fan built into the device, but it’s a completely different type of fan than the ones you would find in a typical “cheap” space heater. This heater uses an advanced high pressure, ball bearing cage blower that is extremely quiet. Take my word for it, you’ll never have to worry about this heater keeping you up at night.
Saves Space – One of the biggest benefits of having so many different appliances contained in a single device is that it helps you save a lot of space and helps to reduce clutter as well. Even just from a cost perspective, it’s better as well, because I found it to be cheaper to just buy this one infrared heater than to buy a space heater, air purifier, humidifier, and fan separately. The Dr Heater Elite gives you outstanding value for money spent.
What I Don’t Like About This Infrared Heater
Odor – When I first used this heater, I noticed that it gave off a rather unpleasant odor. I researched this and I later found out that it was actually completely normal for infrared heaters to give off a smell during its first few uses. It was a bit annoying initially, but after a while, the chemical smell started going away and within a week it was completely gone.
This is a top-notch space heater that I would recommend to anybody who’s looking for an efficient way to heat their room(s) or home. If you’re someone who has a difficult time tolerating dry air and could benefit from the use of a humidifier, then this heater should definitely be at the top of your “to buy” list. It’s just too good of a value to pass up. You get the functionality of 4 appliances in one compact wood cabinet, and the space saving benefits that come with it. There’s not much more you could ask for than that.
